The Morning Star – Lucifer or Jesus?

5 min read

Heinrich Hofmann -Figure of Christ -1884

According to biblical texts, Jesus proclaims himself as the Bright Morning Star. So how should we understand Isaiah 14:12? Note the differences from The New International Version (NIV) to King James Bible.

King James

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

NIV

How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain, I will ascend above the tops of the clouds. I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.

So, we have established that in the NIV, the “morning star” is a negative figure. Cast down to the earth and fallen from heaven. The following passages in the NIV show the “morning star” as Jesus Christ. The NIV labels the fallen character of Isaiah 14:12 “morning star”.

Other mentions of Morning Star

Pet 1:19 (NIV) And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.

Rev 2:28 (NIV) I will also give him the morning star.

Rev 22:16 (NIV) “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Nu 24:17 (NIV) “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel…”

Isa 60:1-2 (NIV) “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you.”

John 8:12 (NIV) Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Jupiter

Ancient Babylonian sky charting performed by Babylonian astrologers reveal that the morning star, the star of Bethlehem, and the star of Babylon were all Jupiter.

Also, from The Dawn of Civilization Egypt and Chaldea, By G Maspero, 1894

“He cleared a path for the planets, and four of them he entrusted to four gods ; the fifth, our Jupiter, he reserved for himself, and appointed him to be shepherd of this celestial flock.”

Ancient astrologers have always associated Jupiter with the birth of kings. As the largest of the celestial orbs, in ancient writings Jupiter was the King of Kings and King of Gods. With this title he was Father of the Sky, also Father of the Gods, and Lord of Heaven. For thousands of years, Jupiter marked the birth of kings.

Other Correlations

In ancient Greece, Jupiter’s counterpart is Zeus. Iesous Christos translates to Hail Zeus the Anointed One. Sumerian texts identify Jupiter as the “bright sun-like star.” In some variations of the Enuma Elish however, Jupiter is Nibiru (Neberu) which means “ferry boat or to cross. Coincidentally, Jupiter mimics this exact motion as it travels back and forth across the sky. It also appears to pull the Sun into the sky, as Ra does on his celestial chariot.

The Testaments of Solomon

“Then I summoned Beelzeboul to appear before me again. When he was seated, I thought it appropriate to ask him, ‘Why are you alone Prince of the Demons?’ He replied, ‘Because I am the only one left of the heavenly angels (who fell). I was the highest-ranking angel in heaven, the one called Beelzeboul. There is also accompanied me another ungodly (angel) whom God cut off and now, imprisoned here, he holds in his power the race of those bound by me in Tartarus. He is being nurtured in the Red Sea; when he is ready, he will come in triumph.”

“I said to him, ‘What are your activities?’ He replied, ‘I bring destruction by means of tyrants; I cause the demons to be worshiped alongside men; and I arouse desire in holy men and select priests. I bring about jealousies and murders in a country, and I instigate wars.” – TSol 6:1-4

Beelzebub acknowledges to Solomon that he locked up a “race” bound by him in Tartarus. Solomon’s reign was about 100 years before the mention of Zeus overthrowing the Titans in Greece.

Connecting the Dots…

Lucifer is described as the highest ranking Angel in heaven. Ezekiel 28:14 “Thou wast the anointed cherub that covereth: and I set thee, [so that] thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.” Also, Beelzebub states he was the highest ranking in heaven. TSol – “I was the highest-ranking angel in heaven, the one called Beelzeboul.”

Jesus calls himself the light. Many depictions display a Sun disc behind him. While Ra wears a Sun on his crown. Both associated themselves with a serpent, both were against a serpent. The death and rebirth of the Sun correlates to the Solstice on Dec 22, and the Birth (or Resurrection) 3 days later on Dec 25th. Why the similarity and contradiction?

Zeus’s Grandfather was Ouranos, a Sky God. Marduk’s Grandfather was Anu, a Sky God. Both grandmothers were earth goddesses (Gaia/Ki) Marduk’s brother was Nergal, Ruler of the Underworld. Zeus’ brother was Hades, Ruler of the Underworld. Zeus other brother was Poseidon, Lord of the Sea. Marduk’s other brother was Ninagal, Lord of the Waters. Both are supreme and are storm gods. With these basic facts we can conclude that Zeus and Marduk share MANY similarities.

So Who is the Morning Star?

Jesus and Lucifer appear to have struggled over the title of Morning Star. As we’ve learned above, the ancient Babylonian morning star is Jupiter. Whoever associated themselves with this planet was considered the top of the Godhead. For example, when Hades/Serapis overthrew Jupiter, he took the title Jupiter Dis. This merger of God with celestial orb was a common practice throughout history. The term Demiurge best describes this concept.

  1. Isaiah 14:12-…. ”I will raise my throne above God…. “ describes what the Church has done with Jesus very well. No one worships God anymore. They made a half-human their god and worship him exclusively. Even against Jesus teachings. “Worship none but God the Father….” so those who laid the foundations of Christianity and now perpetuated by the Church are Lucifer not Jesus the person.
