1. When Marduk heard the word of the gods,

2. His heart prompted him and he devised [a cunning plan].

3. He opened his mouth and unto Ea [he spake],

4. [That which] he had conceived in his heart he imparted [unto him]:

4. The gods paid homage, fear [took hold upon them]!

5. O Asaru-alim-nuna, “the mighty one,” “the Light of [the father who begat him],”

6. Who directeth the decrees of Anu, Bel, [and Ea]!”

7. He was their patron, he ordained [their . . . . ];

8. He, whose provision is abundance, goeth forth […]!
